Why Team Discuss matters
01
Talk on the record
Cost swaps and allergen notes live on the recipe or sales order, not a text thread that vanishes overnight.
02
One inbox for the kitchen
Team Chat lists every active discussion you are in, grouped by recipes, orders, POs, and invoices.
03
Pull the right person in
@mentions notify the chef, GM, or purchaser so the decision does not wait on the wrong group chat.
No credit card for the live demo
Discuss recipes, orders, and POs in place
Cancel anytime
The kitchen already has a group chat. It just is not attached to the work.
Vendor cost changes, gluten-free swaps, and receiving shortages get decided in texts that the next shift never sees. Serious catering keeps the conversation on the recipe, the order, and the PO.
Take catering seriously
If the decision affects the plate, the invoice, or the truck, it belongs on that record — with an inbox so the team can catch up.

Discuss without leaving the page
Open Team Discussion from a recipe, sales order, PO, invoice, menu, or production plan. The thread stays on that record so the next person who opens it sees the same decision.
- Comments on recipes, ingredients, menus, meal plans, vendors, POs, sales orders, invoices, and production plans
- Expand the panel or jump to the full Team Chat channel for that record
- Unread badges surface new replies while you keep working
Open a recipe discussion in the live demo and leave an @mention for the next shift.
General inbox
Catch up across the kitchen in one place
Team Chat is not a blank #general room. It is the inbox for every resource discussion you are part of — recipes you commented on, orders you were mentioned on, POs waiting on purchasing — grouped by type with live updates.
- Channels are named records with an Open link back to the source
- Unread counts roll up by group so nothing hides in the sidebar
- Thread replies keep long cost or allergen debates readable

@mentions
Pull the right person into the thread
Tag the chef on a recipe cost swap or purchasing on a short PO line. Mentions and replies notify the people who need to act, while the conversation stays on the record everyone else will open next.
- @mentions with notifications so decisions do not wait on the wrong chat
- Reply and reaction notifications keep threads moving without another tool
- Mark a channel read when you catch up in Team Chat
Same context, every shift
The next cook should not hunt for yesterday's decision
When the conversation lives on the order, the BEO, the label, and the route all inherit the same truth.
Discuss here. Finish the job elsewhere.
Pair Team Discuss with tasks and checklists for assigned work, sales orders and quotes for client tickets, and the AI sous chef when you need a costing answer instead of a debate. See pricing for plans.
Team Discuss FAQ
Straight answers about record threads, the inbox, and @mentions.
What is Team Discuss?
Team Discuss is Prep Station's team chat and comments on records. You discuss recipes, sales orders, purchase orders, invoices, and other kitchen resources in place, and open Team Chat as one inbox for those active threads.
Is this a separate Slack-style workspace?
No. Channels are your real records — recipes, orders, POs, invoices, menus, and more — not invented #general rooms. The conversation stays tied to the work.
What can I discuss on?
Comments attach to recipes, ingredients, menus, menu items, meal plans, vendors, purchase orders, sales orders, invoices, and production plans. Open the floating discussion panel on the record, or jump in from Team Chat.
What is the difference between the floating panel and Team Chat?
The floating Team Discussion panel opens on the record you are viewing. Team Chat is the full-page inbox that lists every active discussion you are part of, grouped by resource type, so you can catch up across the kitchen in one place.
Do @mentions notify people?
Yes. @mentions pull the right chef, GM, or purchaser into the thread with notifications, so the decision does not die in a group text.
Can I reply in a thread?
Yes. Replies nest under a parent message so cost swaps, allergen notes, and receiving questions stay readable without flooding the main channel.
Is Team Discuss in the live demo?
Yes. Plans that include chat ship Team Discuss. Try the live demo with sample catering data and open a recipe or sales order discussion.
Keep the decision on the dish.
Open Team Discuss in the live demo, leave a comment on a recipe, and see it surface in the Team Chat inbox.
